This Vanderwende’s is definitely worth a stop if you like freshly made quality ice cream. They have a nice outdoor covered area to relax and enjoy the cows as you eat (as long as you don’t have a problem with farm aromas).
The “kids scoop” for $5 is quite sufficient for the average adult. I got a scoop of coconut with wet walnuts (see video) and was plenty satisfied with the quality and quantity. It’s a Delaware tradition, so highly recommend you give it a try if you happen to be driving by this unique spot in the middle of eastern shore farmland. 🐮🐄

Not only is their ice cream absolutely delicious, but their cinnamon buns with generous portions of nuts and raisins are the very BEST ever!!!
The only place I know which is willing to divide a single scoop into two flavors🤗
The coconut ice cream has large chucks of chewy coconut and the mocha almond fudge contains full size almonds.
Although the bathroom has only one single use toilet, it is very handicapped accessible with grab bars and always clean.
A single scoop of their amazing ice cream is big enough for a whole meal, so stop at Vanderwende’s for lunch, dinner or anytime in between!

Honestly I don’t understand the hype. We tried the apple pie and pretzel salad flavors. The apple pie was fine and the base was good quality. The pretzel salad was not very good - they put uncovered pretzel pieces into the ice cream that were soggy, and I received a huge chunk of strawberry flavor that wasn’t mixed in properly. Overall, not worth your time if there is a line.
