First time eating at a Surf Bagel place. I had heard positive feedback about them so wanted to check it out. I had a cheesesteak which was good, and the restaurant of my family had bagel sandwiches. The restaurant was nice, had a little merchandise store when you walk in. The employees were not the friendliest. We were not greeted as we approached the counter and two women at the counter seemed not in a good mood. After we ordered the food came fairly quick. They have several different coffees to choose from, as well as a typical soda machine and bottled drinks in a refrigerator. The food itself was good, but as mentioned already…the service was lacking.

A Solid Bagel Stop in Lewes
I’ve eaten at Surf Bagel before, so on the way home from a recent business trip I decided to stop again and grab breakfast to go.
I ordered a sesame bagel with egg, cheese, and scrapple, along with a hash brown. The bagel was nicely toasted and very fresh, which is really what you hope for when you’re stopping at a place that specializes in bagels. The sandwich itself was simple but very satisfying. Nothing over the top or crazy fancy, just a well made breakfast sandwich that hit the spot.
The service was friendly and quick, and the place itself has a unique feel to it. Inside they sell quite a bit of Surf Bagel merchandise, which gives it a fun local vibe beyond just being a bagel counter. I included a few photos because the shop has a cool look to it.
I stopped in around 9 in the morning and it was still pretty busy, even during the off season. That tells me this place probably gets packed during the summer months.
Overall, everything was fresh, the staff was nice, and it’s definitely a place I’d stop at again when I’m in the area.

Surf Bagel isn’t the same after its owner sold it to a big business. For all of those that remember the larger fresh delicious- New York style bagels it’s just another thing that has changed. It’s been a few years since the sale and the bagels are nothing to write home about. Cost more and they aren’t as big or tasty. I guess they can be average since they are the only game in town. The bagel in my picture is an everything bagel - should be called a few things bagel. 7:30 am purchase and it wasn’t that fresh or tasty but.. better than Dunkin… maybe ?
