Grotto Pizza

Perfectly mediocre pizza. I moved to DE almost a year ago and didn't go to a Grottos because locals had mentioned how basic it was. But on the 11th month of living down here. I figured I would try it. Wasn't worth the 18 minute drive. I get a margarita pizza almost anywhere so go, and honestly, not hard to screw that up.....but this had 70% tomatoes on it. I am happy I tried it to see for myself, but looks like the locals were right, a good pizza stop for beach goers looking for an inexpensive way to feed their vacation peeps, but a bad pizza joint for people looking for good pizza. Had my empty glass sitting at the bar for a good 12 minutes before bartender asked if I wanted another and there was only 3 other people at the bar. She walked past my empty glass pushed as far to the edge toward her a total of 19 times. She even came to take my empty plate and didn't even ask if I wanted a refill. Papa johns serves up WAY better pizza, and that's not saying much. Hell I think even Dominoes might be a better choice and I haven't had Dominoes in well over 20 years. I won't be visiting another Grotto's ever. I would much rather make the almost 7-8 hour drive to New Haven CT to get amazing pizza than this 18 minute away from my home spot.

Food:
- I paid $1.75 for an extra side of cheese which I didn’t get.
- I paid to add veggies to half a large cheese pizza and got soggy mushrooms and 1” chunks of green pepper. Weird. But weirder yet, they just didn’t put cheese on that side of the pizza. No one would eat it. I tried to but it was honestly just too gross. - I paid extra for extra cheese in the Stromboli. What a let down. I was literally appalled at how small it was for the price and even more appalled at over 1/3 of it being literally just dough. Edible part was maybe the size of a burger bun from McDonald’s.
- Didn’t eat the cheesesteak because the cheese wasn’t in the bag that I paid for. Thanks again. Not.
- Live 6 min away exactly. Arrived within 3 min of the pickup time provided. Got home and food was already totally cold. It’s like 80 out. Honestly guys just lame.

0/5 on service.
- No clearly marked entrance for pickup and first time visitor to this location. Waited up front for a good 1-2 min before anyone noticed me standing there at the hostess stand.
- Despite pre-tipping the pickup ppl, they let half my order go out wrong or missing and I can’t let the fact that after I had to initiate why I was there, say my name, get handed a bill to sign - the girl took the bill and then walked away. Not even a thank you or you’re all set or god forbid have a good night.
- This was a nearly $70 order. The ONLY pickup order they had on their shelves when I arrived. Restaurant was 98% empty. And 2 girls working this station. They absolutely had the time. Lesson learned: I’ll never pre-tip for any pickup ever again.

I visited this location on 7/5, I phoned ahead to see if they could accommodate our party of 11 and was told no problem and about a 25 minute wait, when we arrived we were seated in a side section which the a/c was broken!! It was 85 degrees and we ate in the dark to keep the lighting from making the room any hotter. Absolutely ridiculous, would have gone somewhere with working a/c Definitely would not recommend this location.
