The Forgiven

The Forgiven is a searing drama that takes place over a weekend in the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco, exploring the reverberations of a tragic accident. A quintessential story between the haves and have nots. David (Ralph Fiennes) and Jo (Jessica Chastain) are a couple on the edge of divorce who are taking a vacation in a last-ditch effort to save their marriage. However, their already-tense time takes a turn for the worse when they accidentally hit and kill a young Moroccan boy. As the two split off to reckon with their actions, they find themselves coming to terms with their respective vices – David with his uncaring and vicious bigotry, and Jo with her unbearable compliance and repression. In these introspections, those around them will be left picking up the pieces. This pulse pounding drama coupled with the on-screen chemistry between Fiennes and Chastain, makes the film a summer must see on the big screen. Great performances, and it left me feeling ambivalent about a lot of things.” Venue: Cinema Art Theater. Presenter: Rehoboth Beach Film Society.
