• 12:00 pm
The Lewes Public Library Spoken Word Society is hosting Poe on Stage, a Writing and Performance Seminar for Adults and High School Students. In coordination with a scheduled dramatic reading of several stories and poems by Edgar Allen Poe, participants will read and discuss the stories and poems, identify their favorites, and develop those texts into scripts for staged performances. Finally, the group will prepare and perform their work for a live audience. Paul Huey-Burns will facilitate the program. Paul teaches 11th and 12th-grade literature at an independent school in Potomac, MD and taught previously at Notre Dame of Maryland University in Baltimore. Paul maintains residences in Lewes as well as in Maryland and is experienced in literary interpretation, playwriting, and theatrical production. The program meets every other week on Saturdays from noon until 2:00 pm, with the public performance scheduled for Saturday, January 28. This program is open to adults and high school students aged 14 and up. Space is limited and registration is required. The Spoken Word Society is partially funded by a grant from the Delaware Humanities, a state program of the National Endowment for the Humanities, and by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. The Division promotes Delaware arts events on DelawareScene.com. Venue: Lewes Public Library.
