History Book Festival Presents Honorée Fanonne Jeffers: The Love Songs of W. E. B. Du Bois

Sep 2, 2021 • 5:00 pm
In collaboration with the History Book Festival, join us for a talk with Honorée Fanonne Jeffers, author of The Love Songs of W. E. B. Du Bois, an offering of the 2021 virtual History Book Festival. In the author’s first novel, Ailey Pearl Garfield, a young African American woman, seeks to come to terms with her identity by journeying through her family’s past, uncovering tales of generations of ancestors — Indigenous, Black, and White — in the Deep South. She discovers a legacy of oppression and resistance, bondage and independence, cruelty and resilience that is the story — and the song — of America itself. Honorée Fanonne Jeffers is a fiction writer, poet, and essayist who teaches creative writing and literature at the University of Oklahoma. She was longlisted for both a National Book Award and the PEN/Volcker Award for Poetry for her latest volume of poetry, The Age of Phillis. NOTE: this meeting is being conducted through Zoom. You MUST REGISTER to receive instructions for joining the meeting. Venue: Lewes Public Library. Presenter: History Book Festival.
