DESCRIPTION:Acclaimed British artist\, Roger Dellar\, will return to Lewes 
 for the\nfirst time in over five years. During his stay on this side of th
 e\npond\, the Peninsula Gallery will mount a solo exhibition of his work\,
 \ntitled “Shadow and Light.” The show\, which will be on display from\
 nMay 2-24\, will include new oil paintings from Dellar\, some of which\nwe
 re painted right here in Lewes. The show features 30 pieces from his\nexte
 nsive inventory housed at his studio in Surrey\, England\,\nhand-picked by
  gallery owners\, Tony and Carol Boyd-Heron. These works\ndepict a variety
  of scenes — from notable metropolitan iconography\nto blooming gardens\
 , portraits of ballerinas and tango dancers\, and\ncoastal landscapes with
  boats galore. The remainder of the show will\ninclude images painted on l
 ocation in Delaware.     An opening\nreception will be held on Saturday
 \, May 2\, from 5:00 to 6:30 pm\, which\nis free and open to everyone. Del
 lar will be in attendance\, giving\npatrons the rare opportunity to mingle
  with the UK-based artist. Join\nRoger and the gallery staff for an evenin
 g of fine art and\ncomplimentary food and drink. Roger Dellar is a profess
 ional\nfigurative artist who works from his home studio in Southern Englan
 d.\nHe travels widely and is internationally known for his work in several
 \nmedia\, including watercolor\, pastel\, and oil\; all the works featured
 \nin “Shadow and Light” are made in oil. He has been a resident\nartis
 t at the Peninsula Gallery\, his only American venue\, for over 15\nyears.
  He is equally well known as a teacher of art and has taught the\ntechniqu
 es of oil painting throughout the United Kingdom and Europe.\nAs part of h
 is visit to Lewes\, Roger will be teaching two workshops\,\norganized by t
 he gallery. Roger’s art reflects his keen interest in\npeople and their 
 behavior\, as well as the way light transforms a\nsubject. His paintings d
 epict people in everyday situations\, captured\nin an instantly recognizab
 le moment. His work is usually done en plein\nair\, with the canvas reflec
 ting a freedom of movement derived from\nrapid\, broad strokes of color co
 ming together to represent an image\ncaught in time. Roger is also particu
 larly strong in capturing the\ninteriors of public spaces with the reflect
 ions of light from the\nstreet\, playing off and enhancing the character o
 f the room. Roger is\na member of The Royal Institute of Painters in Water
 colour\, The Pastel\nSociety\, and The Royal Institute of Oil Painters. Si
 nce 1996\, he has\nbeen an active member of The Wapping Group\, an invitat
 ion-only group\nof 25 artists who capture the views of life along the Rive
 r Thames in\nEngland. Roger has won numerous awards for his painting\, inc
 luding The\nBath Prize Best Oil Painting\, The Royal Institute of Oil Pain
 ters Le\nClerc Fowler Medal\, and honorable mention at The Easton\, MD Ple
 in Air\nCompetition\, as well as The Pastel Society’s Unison Pastel Awar
 d\,\nAnthony J Lester Art Critic Award\, and Art Club Award. “Shadow and
