SUMMARY:Peninsula Gallery: Tranquility
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Take a breath and find peace in the scenic paintings of Peninsu
la\nGallery’s July exhibition\, “Tranquility”. From July 1st to the
\n30th\, bask in oil\, pastel\, and acrylic artworks that capture the\ncal
mness and solitude evoked by idyllic locations. \n\n \n\nThis exhibition
includes works from Sara Cameli\, César Jerez\, Laura\nMcGowan\, Janet R
aesly\, and Drew Scarpa. While not all of the works are\nof Delaware\, the
locations featured in these paintings are universal\nand can be found jus
 t about anywhere. Carol Boyd-Heron\, the\ngallery’s co-owner\, says of
“Tranquility”: “We live in\nparadise\, and in paradise\, there are b
eautiful sights to behold. This\nexhibition is filled with pieces that rem
ind us how peaceful and\nrelaxing the natural world is.”\n\n \n\nSara C
ameli\, a resident artist at Peninsula Gallery\, will showcase her\nlarge
abstract paintings of marshlands and ocean scapes for\n“Tranquility.”
After several years of teaching in Atlanta\, GA\,\nSara decided to focus o
n painting. Since moving to Delaware in 2014\,\nSara has found coastal wat
erways and marshes to be a powerful muse.\nSara’s works are reminiscent
of vast horizons\, conveying the same\nsoothing feeling of standing on the
  water’s edge.\n\n \n\nCésar Jerez is a longtime New Jersey resident\
, who uses light\neffects in his plein air paintings to create a sense of
distance and\ndrama while capturing both the weather conditions and the sp
 ecific\ntime of day. Today\, as a self-termed “abstract realist\,” Cé
sar\ncaptures the life of the subject by identifying the essential\ncompon
ents of an object or scene and depicting them in the most\nsimplistic way
to convey complete realism without neglecting the\nartistic elements of fo
rm and strong composition. César is the only\nartist in “Tranquility”
that includes humans in his scenes\,\ndropping the viewer into the frame
 of mind of these relaxing\nindividuals.\n\n \n\nLaura McGowan\, another r
esident artist at the gallery\, is based on the\nEastern Shore of Virginia
. After working as a children’s art\nteacher\, Laura sought to reconnect
with her own art-making\, becoming a\nfull-time artist in 2016. She paint
 s landscapes\, seascapes\, and still\nlifes\, combining studio work with p
lein air painting. Her paintings\nutilize vibrant colors that engulf a sce
ne\, transporting you directly\nto that moment via her painter's palette.
\n\n \n\nJanet Raesly is an oil painter from Chevy Chase\, Maryland\
, who\ncurrently resides in Bethesda and Rehoboth Beach. Janet’s focus i
 s\non landscapes\, waterscapes\, and still life\, using oil paints on\ncan
vas. Her style is often referred to as expressionistic realism.\nMuch of h
er current work is inspired by the colors and light of the\nDelaware coast
and the Eastern Shore\, which can be seen in this\nexhibition. Her painte
d landscapes and waterscapes capture light\,\ndepth\, and the ever-changin
 g movement of water and atmosphere.\n\n \n\nDrew Scarpa\, “Tranquility
’s” pastel artist\, has been developing\na body of work that represent
s the landscape of Southern New Jersey\,\nwhere he lives\, as well as othe
r areas of the East Coast. As an\nartist\, he paints\, in a realistic styl
e\, scenes that are inspired by\nactual locations. In this show\, Drew’s
landscapes are rendered both\naccurately and abstractly\, using blocks of
colors to create a\nlandscape that is still identifiable by the viewer. H
 is pieces capture\nthe essence of a moment.\n
