STORY In\nFebruary 2022\, Steve Greifer started reaching out on local soc
ial\nmedia to see if he could find some musicians to play chamber music\nw
ith him when he moved to Milton. He hoped to play some duets or\,\nbetter
 yet\, play in a string quartet. Eva DelGallo\, a Lewes violinist\nand reti
red school orchestra director\, responded to Steve’s first\npostings wit
 h a much bigger vision than a quartet. Seeing the\nenthusiastic response f
rom the string-playing community\, Eva saw the\nopportunity to bring her l
ong-time dream of an orchestra in Southern\nDelaware to life and jumped in
with both feet. Our third co-founder is\nour music director\, James Allen
Anderson\, head of Orchestral Studies\nat University of Delaware and Musi
c Director of the Philharmonic of\nSouthern New Jersey. We reached out to
Jim in our search for a musical\nleader\, hoping he would refer some of hi
s conducting students.\nInstead\, Jim volunteered to lead us! So on May 3\
, an unnamed orchestra\nof 30 string musicians held its first rehearsal\,
and on July 16\, a\nnewly named/formed/incorporated/501(c)(3) Southern Del
aware Orchestra\nplayed its inaugural concert at Bethel United Methodist C
hurch in\nLewes to a standing ovation from a capacity audience! We have si
nce\nplayed to enthusiastic sold-out houses from The Grand Opera House in\
nWilmington to the Rehoboth Convention Center and Epworth UMC.\nFollowing
 our Spring Concert\, we launched a market-wide search for the\nbest area m
usicians for Winds\, Brass and Percussion musicians to reach\nour Mission
to evolve from a String ensemble to a full Symphony\nOrchestra. Our summer
concerts mark our first performances with our\nnew musicians! Today\, we
have over 70 musicians\, and many friends in\nthe Southern Delaware commun
ity who support our efforts. We practice\nevery Monday night and have a fu
ll roster of upcoming concerts ahead\nof us. We are a welcoming community
orchestra with members ranging\nfrom retirees to active professional music
ians to talented teens! We\nare all about creating a wonderful musical exp
erience for both our\nmembers and our community\, and we plan to be a long
term member of the\ncultural scene in Southern Delaware!! We hope to see
you soon. Venue:\nMariner's Bethel United Methodist Church. Presenter: SOD
