SUMMARY:All Things Flight and Beautiful: Works by Allison Cosmos
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:February 13 through March 8\, 2026 Opening Reception: Friday\,
February\n13\, 2026 (5pm-7pm) “All Things Flight and Beautiful” explor
es the\nintersection of traditional botanical beauty and modern narrative\
, a\nseries of richly layered scenes and portraits inspired by 17th-centur
y\nChinoiserie and contemporary design. Through detailed botanicals\,\nbir
ds\, and other symbols of the natural world\, the work evokes themes\nof h
istory\, documentation of species and imaginary worlds. Each piece\nis pai
nted by hand\, often incorporating native\, endangered or extinct\nspecies
of flora and fauna. Rich palettes speak to both heritage and\ninnovation.
“My creative process begins with close observation of\nthe natural worl
 d. I’m drawn to the hidden rhythms and quiet dramas\nunfolding among pla
nts and animals. Each species I study becomes a\ncharacter in a visual sto
ry—alive with gesture and meaning—as they\ninteract with one another a
nd their environments. I’m also deeply\ninfluenced by the decorative art
s\, and I enjoy weaving those\nsensibilities into each piece. A Chinoiseri
e influence often appears\nin my work\, alongside echoes of Audubon\, Meri
an\, and Gould—artists\nwhose devotion to nature and detail continues to
inspire me.\nEndangered and extinct species are recurring themes. I often
pair\nregional birds and creatures with complementary trees\, vines\, and
\nflowers\, combining scientific curiosity with aesthetic harmony. Venue:\
 nRehoboth Art League.
